Guidelines

Use the search options to select a Chef you would like to order with. The Chefs profile will give you information about the experience the Chef has and what they are passionate about.

The location of the Chef, the Menu and Reviews from other customers are the other factors you can view before placing your order.

Select the dishes and quantities before checking out. If you would like to order with multiple chefs, you need to place separate orders with each Chef.

Specify the delivery address, date and time, and any special instructions you would like to pass on to the Chef.

On confirming the order, the chefs contact number will be shared with you.

Call the Chef directly to confirm the order, delivery and payment options.

If the Chef has agreed to deliver the food, it will be delivered to you on the requested date and time. The Chef may charge an additional amount for delivery of the food, the amount may be confirmed at the time of order confirmation.

If you have agreed to pick up the food, make sure you collect it at the agreed time so the Chef is not inconvenienced.

There are 2 options available for payment - Online transfer to the Chefs bank account, or Cash on Delivery.

When the order is being confirmed, you may discuss the payment method with the Chef.

If the Chef has requested an online payment, make sure you transfer the amount by the date agreed so the Chef can proceed with processing your order.

When you confirm an order, remember that the Chef will procure the materials required to process your order. Cancellations are really disruptive for the Chef, but we know that sometimes the unexpected happens. Keep in mind, that unless there are extenuating circumstances, you will face cancellation penalties.

If you need to cancel a confirmed order, it's important to do so as quickly as possible. When an order is cancelled, you will be recorded as the party responsible for the cancellation in our system. Because cancellations require additional customer support and generate additional expenses, the following actions are applied :

a) If the cancellation is done before the lead time, you may call the Chef and agree on the amount that needs to be paid, if any.

b) If the cancellation is done within the lead time, you will need to pay the entire order amount to the Chef, unless the Chef agrees to waive the amount partially or totally. The Chef is empowered take the decision.

If the Chef cancels the order before the specified lead time, you will be informed of the same. However, if the Chef cancels after the lead time, cancellation charges will be applied.

You will receive emails and SMSs when you order on the MealBoat system, so we encourage you to do so.

In case the Chef needs clarifications, they will call you. Please make sure that you respond to them in a timely manner.

If you have agreed to pay the Chef online, please find the Chefs Bank Account details in the confirmation email, and make sure you transfer the amount in time so the Chef can process your order.

If the payment is not made in time, the Chef can cancel the order without any cancellation fee.

If the agreed payment method is Cash on Delivery, please make sure that you keep the exact amount ready when the delivery is expected so as t not inconvenience the person doing the delivery.

If you have placed your order on MealBoat, we would love to hear your feedback on the experience with the Chef.

Your feedback will help the Chef know whats working well and improvement areas, if any.

Your profile is like your resume for everyone in the MealBoat community. Visiting someones profile is a great way to learn more about them before placing an order.

MealBoat is a community marketplace built on trust and safety, so we require all home chefs to have a profile photo and an accurate description of yourself and your food. You can include why you decided to join the MealBoat community and anything that you think someone will want to know.

When your profile is robust, it helps other feel you are reliable, authentic and committed to the spirit of community.

Once you've decided on the kind of food and menu you want to put up, take some time to think about the best way to categorize your menu. When your menu is organised,it helps people find what they are looking for easier and quicker. You might also want to consistently mention the serving size, dish description and other tags to increase chances of being found.

High quality pictures are a great way to showcase your dishes, set expectations and increase orders. To help, we offer free professional photography for home chefs. Please call our support services to make an appointment.

The more photos you have the more people will want to browse them.

The rates you decide is completely up to you. To get an idea of how to price compare with similar listings.

As a new home chef, you might want to price lower than average to attract new customers who will be comparing your food with others chefs who have existing reviews. Once you have a few favorable reviews, adjust your rate as required.

Delivering quality consistently is what will keep bringing Customers back to your food. So do not cut corners or compromise on the quality of ingredients you use while preparing your food.

Food needs to be prepared in a hygienic environment and MealBoat will not be responsible for any complaints from the Customer. All complaints related to quality of the food will need to be dealt by the Chef directly with the Customer.

Providing food that has been neatly packaged and labelled will make your customers feel good from the moment they receive it. A tidy box of food will look good and show your commitment towards your customers.

Individual brand names and contact information must NOT be put on the food packaging.

To make your food shine, use the following thumb rules :

a) Use food grade packaging, preferably white containers for liquid (like gravys) items.

b) Aluminium foil containers should be used only for dry items.

c) Cakes (especially iced cakes) must use good quality boxes.

d) Food packed directly in plastic packets is not allowed.

Respond to order and inquires quickly. It is important to respond within an hour so that the order can be successfully placed. Your responsiveness will reflect on the number of orders you will get.

In case you are unavailable to take orders, we must be notified by email in advance.

When you confirm an order, remember that the customer is counting on you to follow through. Cancellations are really disruptive for guests, but we know that sometimes the unexpected happens. Keep in mind, that unless there are extenuating circumstances, you will face cancellation penalties.

If you need to cancel a confirmed order, it's important to do so as quickly as possible. When an order is cancelled, you will be recorded as the party responsible for the cancellation in our system. Because chef cancellations require additional customer support and generate additional expenses for securing last minute order replacements, the following actions are applied :

a) An automatic review appears on your listing and you will need to respond & clarify to the community the reasons for cancellations.

b) You will be subject to a cancellation fee if you cancel a confirmed order. The fee will be deducted from your subsequent payout.

If the customer cancels the order before the specified lead time, no charges are levied. However, if the cancellation arrives after the lead time, cancellation charges will be applied.

You can request the customer to pay the amount to you online in advance, or Cash on Delivery. If you choose online payment, please share your bank account details with the customer.
